型態特徵
Herbs, erect or scandent shrubs or climbers. Stems with scattered vascular bundles, succulent or woody, aromatic. Leaves alternate, opposite or verticillate, petiolate, with or without stipules, entire, palmately nerved or penninerved, often pellucid-dotted. Inflorescences spicate, pedunculate, loosely or densely flowered, leaf-opposed, axillary or terminal. Flowers minute, unisexual or bisexual, without perianth, each subtended by a peltate bract; stamens usually 2–6, hypogynous, filaments free; ovary superior, 1-loculed, carpels 2–5, fused; ovule 1, basal, orthotropous; stigmas 1–7. Fruit a small dry or fleshy drupe or indehiscent berry.

About 10 genera, with more than 3,000 species, pantropical. Two genera in Taiwan.
