型態特徵

Pale yellowish saprophytic herbs lacking chlorophyll, glabrous. Rhizome slender, with contiguous scales. Stems erect, unbranched. Leaves scale-like sessile, entire. Inflorescences racemose, rarely branched at base, or corymbose, terminal, simple; bracts similar to scale leaves. Pedicel solitary, bracteoles 0-2, alternate, not articulated. Flowers funnel shaped; tepals connate with abaxial base of ovary, persistent after flowering, outer 3 deltoid ovate, smaller than inner ones, inner 3 ovate to deltoidovate, spreading. Stamens 6, connate with inner tepal at base; filaments subulate, 1-nerved; anthers dorsifixed, introrse. Ovary semi-inferior; carpels 3, connate 1/4-1/2 their length adaxially, adnate with tepal abaxially, free above tepal; styles solitary on each carpel, capitate; ovules attached adaxially, numerous. Capsules recurved, dehiscing along adaxial suture, with persistent tepals. Seeds numerous, ellipsoid, outer seed coat transparent, membranaceous, loose; inner coat with 3 or 4 longitudinal ridges; endosperm ellipsoid, enclosing minute embryo; hilum apical. Basic chromosome number X=15.

Only one genus, Petrosavia in Myanmar, Malesia, Vietnam, China, Taiwan, and Japan.
