型態特徵
Evergreen or deciduous trees or shrubs. Leaves simple, alternate, entire, petiolate, estipulate. Flowers in spikes, racemes, panicles, or cymes, bisexual, actinomorphic; calyx connate into a tube, the tube cup- or disc-like, accrescent or not in fruit, slightly lobed or truncate; petals usually 4–5, free or connate, valvate; disc various, often annular; stamens as many as and opposite the petals, reduced stamens sometimes present, anthers 2-locular, opening lengthwise by pore-like slits; ovary slightly immersed in the disk, 1–3(5)-celled, each cell with 1–5 ovules, placenta axile, free central or pendulous. Fruit a nut or drupe, enclosed by the enlarged calyx tube or not; seed 1, embryo straight, endosperm copious.

About 26 genera with about 260 species in the tropics or subtropics. Two genera and two species in Taiwan.

型態特徵

Flowers in axillary spikes or racemes, bisexual, yellow, pedicelled; calyx tube truncate; corolla connate into a tube, 4–5-lobed; stamens 4–5, inserted on the upper part of corolla tube, opposite the corolla lobes, filaments very short, anthers 2-locular; staminodia absent; disc annular; ovary immersed in the disk, 1-locular above, 3-locular below, each locule with 1 ovule, stigma 3-lobed. Fruit a drupe, nearly enclosed by the accrescent calyx tube; seed 1, endosperm abundant.
