型態特徵
Dioecious evergreen trees or shrubs; branches often stellate-tomentose. Leaves alternate, simple, entire, estipulate, often pellucid-punctate. Inflorescences axillary fascicles or umbels; flowers small, regular; bracteoles persistent or caducous; staminate perianth 3-lobed, lobes valvate in bud; corolla none; stamens 2-30, monadelphous, filaments connate into a central column, anthers 2-celled, extrorse. Pistillate periath 3-lobed; ovary superior, 1-celled, style short or none, stigma capitate, discoid or lobed; ovule 1, basal, erect, anatropous. Fruit oblong or ovoid; pericarp thick, fleshy, dehiscing into 2, rarely 4 valves; seed 1, with a fleshy laciniate aril.

About 11 genera and 250 species, widely distributed in the tropics. One genus with 2 species in Taiwan.

型態特徵
Large evergreen trees. Leaves usually white or glaucous beneath, often reddish-tomentose, the midrib concave above, veinlets reticulate. Inflorescences cymes, umbels or panicles, few-flowered, axillary or in axils of caducous leaves; flowers pedicellate; bracteoles adnate to base of pedicels, persistent; perianth campanulate or urceolate, 3-lobed; stamens of staminate flowers in cylindric column or fusiform, shorter than the calyx, anthers 12-30, elongate, whorled. Pistillate flowers connate, bilobed stigmas. Fruit often large, oblong, ovoid or globose; pericarp thick, fleshy, arils connate at base, laciniate upward.
