型態特徵
Monoecious or dioecious, shrubs or trees, evergreen or deciduous, glandular, aromatic. Leaves alternate, simple, estipulate. Flowers unisexual. Inflorescences spike-like catkins. Staminate catkins soli-tary, fasciculate or paniculate, axillary or at base of young branchlets, sometimes with female flowers at apex; staminate flowers solitary in axils of bracts; stamens 2-20, often 4, filaments short, free or connate, anthers 2-celled. Pistillate catkins mostly axillary; pistillate flowers usually solitary in axils of bracts, 2-4-bracteolate; ovary 2-celled, styles 2-fid, very short or indistinct, stigmas filamentous. Fruit a small drupe, ovoid or globose, resinous, endocarp hard. Seeds erect, with membranous testa; endosperm absent or nearly so; embryo straight, cotyledons plano-convex, the radicle short.

Three genera with about 50 species in temperate and tropical regions. One genus in Taiwan.
