型態特徵
Annual or perennial multi-stemmed herbs, often with stout tap root, usually simply or stellately pubescent. Leaves narrowly elliptic to ovate, alternate or in false whorls. Inflorescences axillary clusters or fascicles. Sepals 5, often yellow within, adaxially; petals 0-8(-20), usually split at apex; stamens 3-15; carpels 3-5, styles almost absent. Capsule 3- or 5-, rarely 4-valved; seeds numerous, each with a short funiculus enclosed within a bladder-like caruncle, and with a long filiform appendage coiled round the seed.
About six species, mainly in the tropics and subtropics of both hemispheres; two species in Taiwan.
