型態特徵
Herbs, erect; stems square, glabrous or pubescent, puberulent on nodes. Leaves sessile or subsessile; blades elliptic, narrowly ovate to ovate, margins serrate to pinnatifid. Inflorescences of loose axillary verticillate cymes, bracteoles small, subulate or narrowly triangular. Flowers sessile or subsessile; calyx campanulate, 4- or 5-toothed, teeth narrowly triangular, equal, spine-tipped; corolla campanulate, 4-lobed; fertile stamens 2, erect, anthers 2-celled, parallel; staminodia 2 or none. Nutlets cuneate-obovate, compressed-trigonous, with thickened margins, smooth.
About ten species, distributed in eastern Asia and North America; one species in Taiwan.
