型態特徵
Perennial or annual herbs, rarely shrub-like; stems terete or laterally flattened, erect, occasionally nodding above, as a rule simple. Leaves tufted, radical and cauline, occasionally reduced to bladeless or nearly bladeless sheaths at base of stem; blade, when developed, linear and dorsiventrally flattened or terete, glabrous except for pilose margins on some grass-like blades. Inflorescence corymbose, cymose, capitate or reduced to a single flower. Flowers usually with one or two bracteoles at base, usually bisexual; perianth segments 6, in two series, glume-like, free; stamens 3 or 6; ovary superior; locules1-3; stigmas 3; ovules anatropous, ascending. Capsule loculicidally dehiscent, 3-valved; seeds few to numerous.

About 8 genera with more than 300 species, widely distributed in both hemispheres; two genera and about 10 species in Taiwan.

Perennial herbs; rhizome short. Leaves few, basal and cauline, flat or sulcate, pubescent when young; sheath cylindrical, closed. Inflorescences cymose, umbellate or capitate, usually with a bracteole at base; perianth segments 6, glume like, in 2-series; filaments linear or filiform; anther oblong to linear; ovary 1-locular, style 1, terminal; stigmas 3, twisted. Capsule ovoid, 3-valved; seeds 3, ovoid to ellipsoid with or without a caruncle at one end, sometimes very sparsely pilose at base.
