型態特徵
Perennial or annual, glabrous herbs. Rhizome short or long creeping. Leaves various, grass-like, terete, stem-like or scale-like; sheath open on one side, auriculate apically. Flowers in cymes or heads, sometimes solitary; bracteoles present or absent; perianth segments 6, in 2 series, glume-like; stamens 3 or 6; ovary superior, 1-locular; plancetae parietal, sometimes reaching center and ovary apparently 3-locular; ovules numerous, anatropous; style 1; stigmas twisted. Seeds numerous, sometimes with a taillike appendage on one or both ends.
About 300 species in temperate and arctic areas, rarely tropical, about 6 species in Taiwan.
