型態特徵
Dioecious trees or shrubs. Branchlets slender, smooth. Leaves spiral, chartaceous to coriaceous, often tubercled beneath, penninerved. Flowers in short cymes, these several from an axillary peduncle, the male many, the female few flowered; calyx cupular, minutely 4–5-toothed; petals 4–5, free or coherent below. Disk absent or obscure. Male flowers: stamens 4–5, usually exserted; filaments flattened, with subclavate hairs on the ventral side below the anthers and dorsally at the connective; rudiment of ovary conspicuous. Female flowers: petals sometimes absent; ovary cylindric; stigma sessile, discoid, slightly 4–5-lobed or 4–5 crenate. Drupes ellipsoid or oblong, sometimes shortly beaked, base sometimes swollen; endocarp crustaceous or hard, with 8–10 longitudinal ridges especially prominent in the dry fruit.
About 33 species in SE. Asia(India, Ceylon to Burma, Thailand, Indo-China, and S. China including Hainan) and in Malaysia. One species in Taiwan.
