型態特徵
Mostly small epiphytic, petrophilous or terrestrial, usually delicate plants; rhizomes usually long-creeping and slender, covered with hairs, bearing distant fronds, or sometimes short and erect with clustered fronds. Fronds usually small, of many shapes; the blades only 1-cell thick, simple or variously divided, the veins free, the ultimate segments with only a single vein. Sori marginal or extramarginal, on a slender extension of the vein constituting a receptacle, surrounded by a tubular or sometimes 2-valved involucre-like indusium; sporangia borne on an elongate or capitate receptacle, sessile, the annulus complete, oblique, the dehiscence vertical. Spores trilete. Gametophytes filamentous (algal-like) or ribbon-like.

A family of about 34 genera and 700 species, mostly tropical and subtropical, 15 genera in Taiwan.

型態特徵
Epiphytes, with filamentous, root-bearing rhizomes. Fronds small to minute, repeatedly dichotomous, or forked, or simple by reduction, without false veins; costae winged throughout but stipes not so; margins typically setiferous, cell-walls thin. Sori terminal on the linear lobes; indusia obconic or rarely campanulate, entire, the lips enlarged, with or without cilia or bristles, undulate; receptacles slender, short-exserted.
