Sori marginal or extramarginal, on a slender extension of the vein constituting a receptacle, surrounded by a tubular or sometimes 2-valved involucre-like indusium; sporangia borne on an elongate or capitate receptacle, sessile, the annulus complete, oblique, the dehiscence vertical. Spores trilete. Gametophytes filamentous (algal-like) or ribbon-like.
