型態特徵
Trees, shrubs or herbs with various glandular secretions. Leaves simple, entire, opposite and exstipulate. Inflorescences various. Flowers bisexual or unisexual, regular. Sepals (2-)4-5(-6), imbricate or decussate, the inner ones sometimes petaloid. Petals 4-5(-10), free, imbricate or contorted in bud. Stamens indefinite, free or in 4-5(-10) free or variously united fascicles, often with the antisepalous fascicles sterile or absent. Ovary superior, 1-12-locular, with axile or parietal or basal placentation; ovules 1 to many; styles 1-5 or absent, the stigmas 1-12. Fruit a capsule, berry or drupe. Seeds 1 to many, without endosperm; embryo various; aril present or not.

A family of 40 genera and about 900 species, chiefly tropical and subtropical but with two genera (Hypericum and Triadenum) in temperate regions; four genera and 20 species in Taiwan.

型態特徵
Trees or rarely shrubs, glabrous or with ferrugineous indumentum, with translucent glandular canals and clear (colorless or golden) to opaque (white) exudate. Leaves opposite, entire, lateral nerves numerous, close, parallel, unbranched, alternating with the canals. Inflorescence axillary or terminal, racemose or paniculate. Flowers bisexual or polygamous. Sepals 4, imbricate, inner pair often ± petaloid. Petals 4-12 (in 1-3 whorls) or sometimes absent, white, imbricate or decussate, deciduous. Stamens in 4 obscure antepetalous fascicles or apparently not fascicled, deciduous, very numerous, filaments slender, free or united at base; anthers basifixed, dehiscing longitudinally, often apiculate but without gland on connective; staminodes similar to stamens; sterile fascicles absent. Ovary 1-locular with 1 basal ovule; style 1, slender; stigma excpanded, often peltate. Fruit a drupe, usually green with paler or darker green spots, with crustose endocarp; seed large, ovoid or globose, not arillate; embryo slender, straight, with distinct cotyledons.
