型態特徵
Perennials; culms erect, stout solid, hairy below inflorescence, nodes usually hairy. Blades narrowly linear, upper ones reduced to subulate threads, midrib thickened, ligule rounded, ciliate. Inflorescence a narrow panicle. Spikelets monomorphic, paired, one sessile and other pedicelate, bisexual; rachis easily disarticulating when mature, joint with 2-4-branches, nodes softly hairy, triangular. Sessile spikelets lanceolate, callus purplish hairy, hairs nearly equaling spikelet; lower glume 2-keeled, obtuse, glabrous abaxially; upper glume boat shaped; lower lemma oblong, ciliolate, equaling glume; upper lemma narrower, shorter, palea minute or reduced; stamens 3.
About two species from northeastern. India to Borneo, China and Taiwan. One species in Taiwan. Formally this genus was included in Saccharum.
