型態特徵
Woody plants, stems leafy, erect or scandent. Leaves simple, many nerved or plicate; petioles sheathing. Flowers unisexual or bisexual, in terminal panicles; sepals 6, persistent, imbricate; stamens 6, hypogynous, filaments free, anthers basifixed, erect. Ovary superior, 3-celled, styles 1 or 3, 3-cleft; ovules solitary in each cell, anatropous. Fruit a berry or drupe. Seeds attached laterally, with thick or membranaceous testa and starchy endosperm.

A family of three genera and about 10 species. Old World tropics and the Pacific islands; one genus and one species in Taiwan.
