型態特徵
Herbs, monoecious or rarely dioecious. Stems corn-like, elongate or almost none. Leaves in rosette or growing from the stem, arranged spirally, narrow, linear to lanceolate or filiform, petiole none. Flowers unisexual, borne in dense heads subtended by an involucre of bracts; heads solitary or in umbels; peduncles usually longer than the leaves, with a tubular bladeless sheath surrounded at base. Perianth in two series; sepals 2 or 3, free or connate; petals 2 or 3, united segments or absent; stamens as many or twice as many as the sepals, inserted on the petals. Ovary superior, 3-locular, sometimes 1- or 2-locular; style 1; stigma 3 or 1-2. Capsules membranous, loculicidally dehiscent; seeds small, smooth or reticulate.
屬
Thirteen genera, about 1200 species, found throughout the tropics and subtropics, and a few species grow in temperate regions, one genus in Taiwan.
