型態特徵

Shrubs or trees with silvery or brown scales. Leaves alternate or opposite, entire, estipulate. Flowers regular, unisexual or bisexual, axillary, solitary or in fascicles or cymes or racemes, white or yellow; perianth in the bisexual and female flowers tubular, 2–6-cleft, in the male of Hippophae of 2 membra-naceous sepals; stamens adnate to the perianth-tube, in male flowers twice as many as the lobes, in the bisexual flowers as many as the lobes and alternate with them; ovary free, 1 celled; style filiform, the stigma lateral; ovule 1, basal, erect, ana-tropous. Fruit indehiscent, enclosed in the perianth-tube; seeds ascending; endosperm lacking or scanty; embyro straight, axile; cotyledons thick.
