型態特徵
Terrestrial ferns, a few growing in crevices of rocks; rhizomes creeping or suberect; rhizome and stipe scales usually long and brown, narrowly linear. Fronds pinnate to decompound; stipes usually with a ring of vascular bundles (with only 2 bundles in Quercifilix), stipes and rachis grooved, the rachis grooves not open to rachilla grooves; upper side with ctenitis hairs along rachis, rachillae and costae in nearly all taxa; veins anastomosing in most genera, with at least one row of costal areolae, the areolae often with included veinlets, some genera with free venation. Sori usually round, dorsal on veinlets, on a plexus of veinlets, or terminal on a veinlet within an areola; in two genera (Hemigramma and Quercifilix) the sporangia follow the veins, becoming acrostichoid; indusia usually present, sometimes fugacious, round-reniform.
屬
A family of about 20 genera with over 800 species, cosmopolitan, 9 genera in Taiwan.

型態特徵
Medium sized terrestrial ferns, rhizomes dictyostelic, covered with persistent leaf bases, usually short and erect, in two genera long creeping; stipes with a ring of several vascular bundles, usually tufted, in two genera distant or approximate, scaly at least at base; scales opaque and quite diverse in size, shape, texture and color; venation free in nearly all genera; rachis deeply grooved on upper side and usually open to receive rachillage groves. Sori round, dorsal or terminal on veins; indusia round, peltate and centrally attached or attached by a deep sinus, rarely absent, and in one genus globose and stalked.

型態特徵
Rhizomes creeping or scandent, dorsiventral, rooting only on the ventral surface and two or more rows of fronds on the dorsal surface of rhizomes. Stipes distant or tufted, bearing peltately attached, ovate or lanceolate, brown scales at base, with one or two grooves on upper side and rounded on underside; fronds dimorphic, simple or pinnate; pinnae (when present) entire or deeply lobed, in some cases jointed to the rachises; basiscopic edges of pinnae decurrent on a wing or ridge on either side of the rachises; veins free (simple or once forked) or anastomosing and forming areolae without included veinlets, or with free excurrent veinlets directed away from the costae. Fertile fronds usually with longer stipes and narrower laminae. Sori acrostichoid.

型態特徵
Terrestrial ferns, of moderate size or small; rhizomes creeping, dictyostelic, bearing narrow, dark, entire paleae. Stipes usually approximate, non-articulate, elongate, sparsely paleate, with 2 grooves on upper side, scaley at base; fronds pinnate, rarely simple or bipinnatifid, herbaceous, glabrous; margins crenate to deeply lobed or incised, the sinuses sometimes obstructed by excurrent veins; veins anastomosing, forming areolae with or without excurrent free veinlets. Fertile fronds much contracted, with longer stipes than sterile fronds. Sori acrostichoid, without indusia or paraphyses. Spores globose or nearly so, brownish or hyaline, with thick epispores.
About 85 species, mainly distributed in Asian tropics, three in Taiwan.
