型態特徵
Mostly terrestrial or rarely aquatic, insectivorous, perennial herbs, rarely undershrubs, usually with glandular-pilose hairs. Leaves alternate, rarely verticillate, simple, circinate in bud, cauline or in basal rosettes; petioles mostly distinct, sometimes foliaceous; stipules lateral, interpetiolar or absent. Flowers bisexual, mostly 5-merous, actinomorphic, solitary or in racemes; sepals and petals free, or sepals basally connate; stamens usually as many as petals and alternating with them or rarely up to 20; ovary superior, 1-locular; carpels 3-5, styles 3-5, stigma simple or fimbriate; ovules few to numerous, mostly on parietal or sometimes basal placentas. Capsules mostly loculicidally 3-5-valved; seeds many or few; endosperm fleshy; embryo straight.

Leaves circinate in bud, in rosettes, alternate, petiolate, with marginal glandular hairs much longer stalked than other hairs; stipules none or present and scarious, adnate to base of petiole. Flowers in circinate raceme, occasionally solitary, white or rose; sepals and petals 4-8, mostly 5, free or basally connate, imbricate; stamens as many as petals and alternating with them; ovary superior, free from calyx, 1-celled; ovules many, in parietal placentas; styles 3-5, free or basally connate. Capsules loculicidal, 2-5-valved; seeds many.
