型態特徵
Mostly erect, sometimes scandent perennial herbs or shrubs. Leaves opposite or the upper ones alternate, entire or divided, often pseudopinnate, fleshy. Flowers large, erect, in many-flowered corymbose or subpaniculate cymes, 4-fid spreading limb, much exceeding the calyx, persistent; stamens 8, in rwo series, adnate to the corolla tube; scales 4, hypogynous, linear or oblong; carpels 4, adnate to the base of the corolla tube, attenuate into long styles; glands 4, opposite with carpels; ovules many, oblong, ellipsoid, with 8–15 longitudinal ribs.
About 120 species in tropical Africa and Madagascar, one in Brazil. Three species in Taiwan.
