型態特徵
Evergreen shrubs or trees. Leaves opposite or alternate, estipulate. Flowers monoecious, small, apetalous; sepals 4 or wanting, or 4–12 (in pistillate flowers); stamens 4 or numerous, opposite to the sepals, the anthers basifixed; ovary supperior, mostly 3 locular; ovules mostly 2, rarely 1, pendulous. Fruit a dehiscent capsule or slightly fleshy. Seed albuminous.
屬
Six genera, mostly in tropical and subtropical regions, few in temperate areas. Three genera with five taxa in Taiwan.

型態特徵
Evergreen shrubs. Leaves alternate, petiolate, entire, coriaceous. Inflorescence a short axillary raceme or head, the 3'3 pistillate flowers below, the staminate flowers above. Flowers whitish, apetalous; sepals 4–6; stamens 4–6; ovary 2–3 locular. Fruit drupe like, subglobose to ellipsoid, 1–2 seeded.
