型態特徵
Shrubs, trees or woody climbers; leaves alternate, entire, repand-crenate or slightly serrate. Flowers in terminal or axillary corymbiform cymes, bractless, hermaphroditic or sometimes functionally unisexual and dioecious. Calyx tubular or campanulate, completely closed before anthesis, afterwards irregularly 2–12 lobed or regularly 5 lobed, often accrescent and persistent in fruit. Corolla tubular, 4–8 lobed, white or yellow, fornices absent. Stamens shortly exserted or included. Ovary entire, 4-celled; style terminal, double bifid; stigma capitate. Fruit drupaceous, ovoid to ellipsoid, pyrenes 1, with 1–4 seeds, endocarp bony.
About 250 to 300 species, widely distributed in tropical regions of both hemispheres; 2 species in Taiwan.
