型態特徵

Trees, shrubs or vines, rarely herbs, mostly erect. Leaves opposite, rarely whorled, 1–3-pinnate or sometimes undivided. Panicles or racemes terminal, rarely on short lateral branches. Flowers showy, perfect, irregular. Calyx usually campanulate, valvate, spathaceous or 2–5-lobed. Corolla tubular-ventricose, 2-lipped; lobes 5, subequal or slightly unequal. Stamens 4, didynamous, rudiment of 5th often present, inserted at swelling of corolla tube; filaments linear, glabrous or hairy only at base; anthers 2-celled, included or rarely shortly exserted, cells ellipsoid, dehiscing by longitudinal slits. Disc usually cushion-like or annular. Ovary subsessile, 2-celled; style glabrous, stigma lobes 2, ellipsoid; ovules in many rows grouped in a double series in each cell, anatropous. Capsules mostly elongate, loculicidally or septicidally 2-valved; septum enlarged in fruit, deciduous with the placentae. Seeds compressed-discoid, prominently winged, exalbuminous.

屬

About 100 genera, in the tropics worldwide, a few extending to the warm temperate zones of both hemispheres. One genus native to Taiwan.
