Balanophora 蛇菰屬
型態特徵
Herbs red, white, yellow or brownish, with a tuberous rootstock, with stellate-lobulate warty lenticels. Leaves broad-based, whorled, opposite, distichous or spirally arranged. Inflorescence spadix-like, terminal. Flowers minute, unisexual, pedicellate or not. Male flowers larger, dispersed among female ones or at one end of spike, or on different spikes, mostly subtended by short, truncate bracts; perianth 3–6 merous; stamens without filament; anthers 3, 4–5 or numerous forming a synandrium. Female flowers without perianth; ovary 1-celled; ovule solitary, pendulous. Fruits minute, indehiscent; seeds globose, adhering to pericarp, with copious oily endosperm.
Species 15, in temperate to tropical Asia, Malesia, the Pacific islands, tropical Australia, Madagascar and tropical Africa. Four species in Taiwan.
