型態特徵
Herbs, monoecious, evergreen. Rhizome erect or suberect. Leaves oblong-triangular, green; primary lateral veins parallel, ascending toward margin. Petiole glabrous, sheath without ligule. Cataphyll linear-triangular. Spathe erect, green, becoming pale green at maturity, constricted at sterile flowers between carpellate and staminate portion. Inflorescences 2-4, pedunculate, enclosed by spathe, shorter than spathe, sessile. Flowers unisexual, densely arranged, perigone absent; sterile staminate flowers at base of fertile staminate flowers; carpellate flowers: staminodes absent, ovary 1-locular, ovules many, anatropous, funicle longer than the length of ovule, placentae parietal.
About 120 species in tropical Asia (Brunei, Cambodia, China, Indonesia, Myanmar, Laos, Malaysia, Papua New Guinea, the Philippines, Solomon Is., Thailand, Vietnam and the Malay Archipelago), Vanuatu and tropical America (Brazil, Colombia, French Guiana?, Guyana, Peru, Surinam, Venezuela). One species in Taiwan.
