型態特徵
Erect, spreading herbs. Leaves opposite, often entire. Flowers 2–8, crowded within an involucre of 2 leafy bracts, involucres often combined into a cyme, terminal or uppermost leaf-axils; cymes solitary or 2–7 in an umbellate arrangement; bracteoles linear-lanceolate, shorter than bracts; calyx deeply 5-partite, segments linear-lanceolate; corolla rose or purple, resupinate by torsion of tube, tube slender, slightly widened apically, limb bilabiate, upper lip entire or emarginate, lower lip 3-lobed; stamens 2, long-exserted; anther cells at unequal level; disc cupular; ovary cells 2-ovulate; style filiform, minutely bifid. Capsule clavate, placentae not rising elastically from base; retinacula robust; seeds 2 per valve, flat, orbicular, tuberculate.
About 15 species, from tropical and southern Africa to New Caledonia and southern Japan; two species in Taiwan.
