型態特徵
Herbs or shrubs. Leaves entire or toothed. Flowers on clustered spikes, capitellate or rarely solitary; bracts free or connate forming an obconic or cylindric involucre, enclosing 1–4 flowers, all of which but one are usually reduced or obsolete; bracteoles narrow; calyx very small, deeply 5-partite, scarious or membranaceous, segments linear-lanceolate; corolla pinkish-purple or white, resupinate by torsion of tube, tube slender, limb bilabiate, upper lip (turned downward) subentire, lower lip (Turned upward) very shortly 3-lobed; stamens 2; anthers 1-celled, muticous; disc cupular; ovary 2-celled; style filiform, scarcely bifid at apex. Capsule ellipsoid, stalked, usually 4-seeded; retinacula subulate; seeds ovoid, compressed, smooth or pustular-tubercled.
Species about 40; tropical and South Africa, the Himalaya, China and Australia; two species in Taiwan.
