Climbing vines. Stem solitary, 20-30 cm long, 2.5-3 cm in diam.
Leaves pinnately compound, 2.6 m long, cirrus 1 m long; leaflets 25 pairs, 32 cm long, 2 cm wide, alternate and regularly arranged on lower parts, subopposite apically; rachis and margins with bristles; petioles semicircular in cross section, ca. 30 cm long, 1.6 cm wide, with short spines along edges; sheaths 20 cm long, 4-6 cm across, bright yellow, armed with spines, spines slender, horizontal to slightly reflexed, 1 cm long, slightly swollen at base, nearly glabrous except for prickles.
Inflorescences 60 cm long; spathe (bract) glabrous, loosely tubular.
Fruit ellipsoid, 0.6 cm long, 0.4 cm in diam., vertical rows of straw colored scales 15.
