Annual glabrous herbs, stems erect or ascending, to 20 cm tall. simple or branched.
Leaves sessile, oblanceolate to obovate-oblong, 5–40 mm long, 2–5 mm wide, pinnately nerved, apex acute to obtuse, base cuneate, margins subentire to shallowly crenate, glabrous except scabrous along margin.
Flowers solitary, opposite leaves or in terminal leafy racemes; pedicel shorter than opposing leaf, 2–10 mm long. Calyx cleft nearly to base, 1–2 mm long; lobes oblong-lanceolate to lanceolate, scabrous toward apex. Corolla pale purple, 3–4 mm long. Stamens 2, posterior, fertile; staminodes 2, anterior, filiform, apex curved.
Capsule cylindrical, much longer than the persistent calyx, 6–10 mm long.
