形態特徵

• Stems twining, brownish-tomentose.
• Leaves chartaceous, 6–11 cm long, 5–9 cm wide, apex acute, base cordate or subtruncate,upper surface glabrous, lower surface silky-tomentose, lateral veins 7–10 on each side of midrib; petiole 1.5–6 cm long, brownish tomentose.
• Inflorescences racemes, 4–6- flowered; peduncle 1.5–2 cm long; pedicel 8 mm long, silky pubescent; bracts oblong, 6 mm long, 4 mm wide; sepals ovate-oblong, 5–8 mm long, 3–4 mm wide, tomentose outside; corolla deeply 5-lobed, tube 5 mm long, lobes linear, 15 mm long, reflexed, apex obtuse, pubescent outside; stamens 5, alternate with lobes, filaments 10 mm long; style filiform, 15 mm long.
• Fruits globose, pericarp thin-coriaceous, red; seeds black, glabrous.
• The application of the name <i>A. obtusifolia</i> Loureiro is uncertain, because no type specimen for it has been located. Whether the Taiwan plants are conspecific with those called <i>A. obtusifolia</i> in southern China, Hainan Island, and Vietnam is impossible to say without a more thorough study. We therefore retain <i>A. formosana</i> for the Taiwan plants until further nomenclatural research clarifies the situation.
