Deciduous tree, bark smooth, greenish, 5–30 m high, twigs glabrous.
Leaves in adult trees broadly ovate, with cordate base, acuminate, shallowly to medium 3–5(–7)-lobed, glabrous ornearly so, 9–23 cm by 10–23 cm; petiole 5.5–26.5 cm long.
Panicles crowded at apices of defoliate branchlets, 45–50 cm; axes of panicles, pedicels and outsides of calyx yellowish green, densely stellate-pubescent; calyx 11–12 mm long, inside glabrous, with a ring of long hairs at base, lobes recurved strongly; staminate flower: gynandrophore glabrous, at last exserted, ca. 8 mm long, anther head 3 mm in diam.; perfect flower: carpels densely stellate-pubescent; style 1–1.5 mm.
Follicles on long stalks, oblong, base acute, apex rounded emarginate, thin, coriaceous papery, conspicuously veined, 6–7 cm by 1–1.5 cm; seeds 2–3, dark brown, wrinkled, 6 mm in diam.
