形態特徵

• A tree 5–7 m high; bark grey; branches horizontal; branchlets densely covered with soft and glandular hairs; young shoots slightly viscid.

Leaves herbaceous, distichous, densely hairy, oblong-ovate, 4.5–9 cm long, 1.5–3.5 cm wide, acuminate at apex, oblique, with one side cordate and the other acute at base, 3–5-nerved, acutely dentate; upper surface green; lower surface greyish white; petioles 0.2-0.6 cm long, hairy, nodose at base; stipules 2, slender, short, hairy, deciduous, one filiform subulate, 0.4-0.6 cm long, the other reduced.
• Flowers 20 mm in diameter, white, solitary or in pairs, supra-axillary; peduncles absent; pedicels soft and slim, hairy, 15–16 mm long; buds ovoid, 9 mm long, 5 mm thick; calyx valvate, free and tailed at apex; sepals 5, green, lanceolate, 10–12 mm long, 3 mm wide, tailed at apex, truncate at base, hairy without, glabrous within, reflexed during anthesis; petals 5, broadly obovate, glabrous, crumpled, 10–11 mm long, 9 mm wide; stamens numerous; filaments glabrous, 5–6.5 mm long; ovary shortly stalked, 2.5 mm thick, glabrous, 5–6-celled, cells with many ovules; ovary and style 6 mm long; styles robust, the stigma 2 mm thick, 5(–6)-ridged and grooved.
• Fruit baccate, fleshy, globose, smooth, red at maturity, sweet and ebible, 0.75–1.5 cm in diameter; seeds numerous, minute.

• 台灣 : Planted in gardens and along roadsides for ornamental and edible purposes in southern Taiwan.
• 世界 : Tropical America.
