A deciduous tree.
Leaves, ovate, elliptic or sometimes long-obovate, 5–10 cm long, 3.5–7 cm wide, chartaceous, double-serrate, glabrous on both surfaces or sometimes pubescent along the veins, the apex abruptly acute, the base cordate or rounded, the primary veins 8–10 per side, ascending, parallel; petioles pubescent at first, glabrous at length, 1–2 cm long, more or less reddish.
Flowers in compound corymbs, white, 1.3–1.6 cm in diameter; calyx-lobes triangular, the apex obtuse, caducous, whitish-pubescent inside; petals 5, orbicular-ovate; stamens about 20; styles 2, more or less hairy at base.
Fruits oblong, 7–8 mm long, reddish.
