形態特徵

• Small Evergreen trees or shrubs, to 12 m tall; bark blackish-brown; branchlets terete, young branchlets somewhat soft-hairy to nearly glabrous.
• Leaves alternate, oblong to oblong-lanceolate, 5.5-12 cm long, 1.8-3.2 cm broad, coriaceous, stiff, acute to acuminate at apex, cuneate at base, margins wavy, green above, pale beneath, glabrous on both sides, midrib and 10-12 pairs lateral veins prominent on both sides; petioles 0.7-1 cm long, violet-red when fresh, sparsely soft-hairy to glabrous.
• Inflorescences umbels, axillary; peduncles 7 mm long, soft-hairy to glabrous; bracts 4, rounded, glabr-ous outside, silky-hairy inside; staminate Inflorescences 5-flowered; flowers yellowish-green; pedicels 2 mm long, sparsely soft-hairy; tepals 4, obovate to rounded, soft-hairy on both sides; fertile stamens 12, 1st whorl of stamens eglandular, 2nd and 3rd whorles of stamens with 2 sessile, reniform glands at middle of filaments, anthers ellipsoid, 2-celled, introrse; reduced ovary present; female flowers with 4 staminodia, with appendage at apex of connective; ovary 1-celled, style short, stigma somewhat enlarged.
• Berry ovoid, 1-1.8 cm long, dark violet at maturity.

物候

flowering March to May; maturing June to September.

分布

• 台灣 : cultivated in Taoyuan and Hongyuan, Taichung.
• 世界 : Mediterranean region.
