    An aquatic monoecious perennial herb; stems sparsely branched. Leaves verticillate, in 4-whorls, bipinnatifid, 1.5-2.5 cm long; leaflets sessile, linear, 0.4-1.3 cm long. Flowers in terminal spikes, up to 5 cm long, with 4 flowers at each node; staminate in the upper parts of spikes, the stamens 8; pistillate flowers campanulate. Fruit ovoid, 4, nut-like.
    Widely distributed in the warm and temperate regions.

    An aquatic dioecious herb. Leaves verticillate in 3-4 whorls, bipinnatifid, 7-9 mm long. Flowers unisexual, axillary, 3-4-fascicled, sessile; petals of staminate flowers 4, the stamens 8; pistillate flowers urceolate.
    Ussuri, Amur, Manchuria, Korea and Taiwan.
