     102. HALORAGACEAE 小二仙草科
    HUANG, TSENG-CHIENG

    Herbs. Leaves opposite or verticillate. Flowers bisexual or unisexual, solitary or in spikes or panicles; calyx-tube adnate to the ovary, the lobes 2-4; stamens 2-8, the anthers basifixed, longitudinally split; ovary inferior, 1-4-locular; styles 2-4; ovules pendulous. Fruit a nut or drupaceous; seeds with endosperm.
    About seven genera, 100 species in the Tropics and temperate regions; two genera and three species in Taiwan.

    Glabrous perennial herbs. Leaves small, opposite, coriaceous, serrate; bracteoles 2; flowers small, in terminal panicles, subsessile, unisexual or bisexual; sepals 4; petals 4, valvate; stamens 8; ovary 2-4-locular; styles 2-4, the stigmatic branches pinnatifid; ovules solitary in each locule. Fruit a drupe, longitudinally striate.
    About 60 species in Australia, Tasmania, N. America, Asia and Pacific Islands; one in Taiwan.

    A glabrous erect perennial herb. Leaves usually opposite, petiolate, the petioles 1-2 mm long, the upper ones altemate, elliptic or ovate, 6-10 mm long, 4-8 mm wide, serrulate. Flowers terminally paniculate, 3-9 cm long, subsessile, brownish-yellow; calyx-tube broadly obovoid; petals oblong.
    Japan, the Ryukyus, China, Taiwan, Malaysia and Australia. Taiwan, widely distributed at low to medium altitudes.

    2. MYRIOPHYLLUM L. 聚藻屬

    Soft aquatic herbs. Leaves verticillate, sessile, bipinnatifid. Flowers axillary, 3-4-fascicled or in terminal spikes, the staminate uppermost, the pistillate below; calyx-tube of staminate flowers very short, the lobes 2-4; petals minute or absent; ovary 2-4-locular; style 4; ovules solitary in each locule. Drupe 4-grooved, nut-like.
