     81. LEEACEAE 火筒樹科
    LU, FU-YUAN

    Shrubs or small trees. Leaves alternate, large, 1-4-pinnate, rarely simple; leaflets ovate to oblong-lanceolate, tooth large. Flowers red, yellow or green; calyx 5- rarely 4-toothed; petals as many as the calyx-teeth, connate below and adhering to the staminal tube; filaments connate and included; ovary 3-6 celled, the cells with 1 ovule each. Fruit a 3-6-seeded succulent or rather dry subglobose berry.
    One genus in the tropics.

    Characteristics same as family.
    Species about 70, tropical Asia, Africa and Malaysia, few in Australia; only two species in Taiwan.

    A shrub or small tree, 3-6 m high, glabrous or nearly so. Leaves 50-80 cm long, 3-4-pinnately compound, rachis and branches jointed, leaflets elliptic-ovate to oblong-lanceolate, acuminate, 6-15 cm long, 2.5-8 cm broad, sharply serrate; petioles dilated and sheathing at base. Inflorescence in large red dichotomous corymbose cymes, up to 50 cm across. Flowers 5-merous, about 3 mm long. Fruit dark red, depressed-globose, about 8 mm across.
    The Philippines. Taiwan, in thickets at low and medium altitudes.

    A shrub or small tree, with glabrous pinnate leaves. Leaves 20-50 cm long, simply pinnate; leaflets 5-13, glabrous, apex long-acuminate, coarsely crenate-dentate; petiolules about 1 cm long; cymes up to 10 cm long, pubescent or puberulent, about 20 cm across but often much smaller; calyx green, ovoid; petals oblong-ovate, acute, glabrous, yellowish or greenish-white and sometimes tinged with pink. Fruit brown, glabrous, about 1.5 cm thick, 1 cm long, depressed globose, wrinkled when dried; seeds 3-4, subglobose, about 6 mm across, glabrous.
