    28. DAVALLIACEAE Hɬ
    CHARLES E. DEVOL and TAI- YING YANG
    Mostly epiphytes with long creeping scaly rhizomes; stipes articulate to rhizome. Fronds usually broadly deltoid and often finely dissected, but sometimes simple, venation free. Sori submarginal, terminal on veinlets; indusia tubular, scale-like, or linear and continuous, opening towards margin.
    A family of eight genera, four in Taiwan.

    Epiphytes or growing on moss-covered rocks or old logs; rhizomes fleshy, creeping, densely covered with thin, lanceolate scales; c. s. of rhizome round, with a ring of 8-12 vascular bundles, 2 larger and 6-10 smaller bundles; c. s. of stipe oval, with 2 large bundles and 4 smaller ones. Fronds deltoid, finely dissected, texture thin. Sori submarginal, small, terminal oil veinlet; indusia small, thin, round to sub-deltoid, attached only at base.
    About 12 species, one in Taiwan.

    @@@Rhizome scales nearly entire, brown; stipes 15-30 cm long, sparingly scaly near base. Fronds deltoid, 20-35 cm long by 18-30 cm broad; with thin brown. ovate-lanceolate scales at base of pinnae and pinnules; scales often hair-tipped; ultimate segments acute.
