    Vascular plants without roots; aerial stems dichotomously forking; leaves minute, scale-like without a midrib, or microphyllous and with a midrib; sporangia
    2-3 locular; spores elliptic. .

    Vascular plants without roots; stems erect or pendent, dichotomously branched or unbranched; rhizomes mycorrhizal, with a protostele; aerial stems with a siphonostele. Leaves scale-like, lacking midrib, or elliptical with midrib. Sporangia borne in axils of leaves, 2-3 lobed, eusporangiate, homosporous. Game- tophyte subterranean, cylindrical, mycorrhizal.
    Two living genera, one in Taiwan.

    Rhizome bearing rhizoids; aerial stems simple below, repeatedly dicho- tomously branching above. Leaves small, scale-like, scattered, veinless. Sporangia
    3-lobed, on adaxial side of the minute leaves; spores bilateral.
    Three species, one in Taiwan.

    Psilotum triquetrum Sw. in Schrad. Journ. Bot. 1800(2): 109. 1801.
    Aerial stems green, erect or pendent, 10-50 cm long, angular; leaves awl- shaped, 1-2 mm long.
    Widely distributed in tropics and subtropics. Terrestrial or more often epi- phytic; small plants usually erect; large plants pendent.
