    Fronds dimorphic; sterile fronds bipinnatifid, 60 cm to 1 m tall; pinnae lanceolate, 5-10 cm long; lamina glabrous; fertile fronds appear before the sterile, soon withering, stipes with persistent brown tomentum. Sporangia borne in dense clusters on the pinnule axis, intermingled with long brown and black trichomes.
    Distributed in Siberia, Manchuria, Korea, China. Japan and Taiwan. A very rare fern on Taiwan.

    Fertile and sterile fronds about same length, 40 to 80 cm tall; tomentum on stipes reddish-brown, soon disappearing; pinnae lanceolate, 5 to 8 cm long; fertile fronds with 3 to 4 pairs of medial pinnae bearing clusters of sporangia on pinna-axis, without lamina, turning dark-brown, soon shrivelling; lower pinnae usually not shortened.
    Distributed in the Himalayas, South-West China, Taiwan, Japan and Korea. A rare fern on Tawian.

    Frond dimorphic; sterile fronds bipinnate, usually 50-80 cm tall; pinnae articulate to rachis; pinnules subsessile, articulate to rachilla, lanceolate, the margins serrulate, usually about 4-6 cm long, about 1.5-2 cm broad (rarely longer), usually glabrous, sometimes puberulent along veins; fertile fronds 20-50 cm tall bipinnate, without lamina; very young fronds covered with a tangled mass of pale brown hairs, these flat and very long. Sporangia crowded in dense clusters on pinna-axis.
    Distributed in Japan, Korea, the Ryukyus, Taiwan and China. Growing on exposed hillsides, grasslands.
