     32. POLYPODIACEAE 水龍骨科
SHIEH, WANG-CHUENG, DEVOL, CHARLES E. and KUO, CHEN-MENG

Usually epiphytes, growing on tree trunks, or moss-covered rocks, some terrestrial; rhizome dictyostelic, usually creeping; scales peltate, often clath rate. Fronds often simple (not lobed), pinnatifid, pinnate or rarely digitately lobed; stipes usually articulate to rhizome; veins anastomosing with included veinlets (venation pattern varies with the genera, often hidden). Sori usually round, oval or linear, and in some genera acrostichoid; exindusiate; peltate, clathrate paraphyses often present.
A large family of mostly tropical ferns, with about 50 genera and over 1,000 species, 17 genera in Taiwan.

    KEY TO GENERA
    1. Fronds covered with stellate hairs on one or both surfaces.
    2. Fronds linear; sori covered by a modified reflexed leaf margin… 17. Saxiglossum
    2. Fronds linear, lanceolate or palmately-lobed; sori acrostichoid (covering lower surface); margins not reflexed… 16. Pyrrosia
    1. Fronds without stellate hairs.
    3. Lamina simple, normal fronds not lobed or divided.
    4. Fronds dimorphic,
    5. Terrestrial ferns; sporangia acrostichoid, borne on back of long stipitate elliptical frond; sterile fronds
ovate, decurrent to base… 10. Leptochilus
    5. Epiphytes; sporangia borne in long coenosori.
    6. Coenosori borne on either side of the costa of a much constricted terminal segment; sterile fronds lanceolate… 3. Belvisia
    6. Coenosori borne on either side of the costa of the fertile frond; sterile fronds obovate or orbicular… 8. Lemmaphyllum
    4. Fronds monomorphic.
    7. Sori linear.
    8. The long continuous coenosori borne parallel to the costa; fronds narrowly linear, vittaria-like… 6. Drymotaenium

    9. Venation hidden… 11. Loxogramme
    9. Lateral veins distinct… 4. Colysis
    7. Sori round or oval.
    10. Sori covered with peltate, clathrate scales when young.
