    cuneate, glabrous; veins free. Sori submarginal, terminal on a vein, or uniting the apices of 2-3 veins; indusia fixed by the base and more or less by the sides, opening towards the margin; annulus of 12-24 thickened cells. Spores bilateral or rarely tetrahedral, without perispore.
    About 20 species, pantropic, south to New Zealand and Madagascar, north to Japan and Florida; two species in Taiwan.

    Fronds up to 30 cm long, deltoid-ovate, coriaceous, bi- to tripinnate, the lower pinnae not reduced, segments wide-cuneate.
    Distributed in S. China, Japan, the Ryukyus, Taiwan and the Philippines.

    Adiantum chusanum L., Sp. Pl. 2: 1095. 1753.
    Rhizome short-creeping, clothed with dark brown, stiff, hair-like scales. Stipes up to 25 cm long, stramineous, glabrous; lamina 40-60 cm long, lanceolate to ovate, thickly herbaceous, tripinnate to quadripinnatifid, the lower pinnae usually somewhat reduced, segments cuneate.
    Distributed in C. and S. China, Himalayas, India, Ceylon, Malay Peninsula, Japan, Taiwan, the Philippines, Malaya Isls., Polynesia and Madagascar.

    3. TAPEINIDIUM (Presl) C. Chr. 達邊蕨屬

    Terrestrial; rhizome creeping, protostelic, clothed with narrow brown scales. Fronds of moderate size, simply pinnate to bipinnate, subcoriaceous, glabrous; veins free. Sori submarginal, simple, terminal on the veins; indusia firm, half cup-shaped, fixed by base and sides or free in the upper part; annulus of 13-16 thickened cells. Spores bilateral, smooth.
    A genus of 17 species, ranging from Indo-China to Malaya, Luzon and Fiji; only one species in Taiwan.
