    Tall terrestrial herbs with pseudobulbs. Stems tufted, reed-like, leafy throughout, thickened at base. Leaves more or less distichous, grass-like, conduplicate, articulate, with overlapping sheaths. Raceme terminal, simple or branched, gradually elongating. Flowers produced in succession, resupinate; sepals narrow, dorsal one erect, lateral ones usually close together behind lip; petals usually wider, spreading horizontally; lip sessile at base of column and embracing it; column elongate, slender, slightly dilated at apex; anther terminal, incumbent, mainly 2-celled; pollinia 8, relatively soft, laterally flattened, connected through caudicles in 2 pairs of 4, viscidium obscure; stigma entire.

    Few species, possibly only a single highly variable one; widespread from the Ryukyus, southern China, the Himalaya through Malaysia to Indochina and the adjacent Pacific islands. One species in Taiwan.
